ALMEIDA , Islington N1  ( seats 325 ) Home to some of the greatest productions in London. Has always had some great offerings but under Rupert Goold, has had a good number of transfers and some truly interesting programming

ETCETERA Pub Theatre, Camden Town NW1( seats 40) This is a pub fringe theatre. A space where artists can present their works, whatever that may be. As with all fringe, can be hit or miss. The pub is very busy at times, good Camden atmosphere. Loads of other food options too, with Camden Market et al just around the corner.

GATEHOUSE , Highgate Village N6 ( seats approximately 130 , depending on layout) A pub theatre atop Highgate Hill. Lovely neighbourhood, good food and a mix of musicals and fringe theatre offerings. Their in house theatre company is the very industrious Ovation.

 HOPE THEATRE ( Anchor & Hope pub) Islington N1 ( seats 50) On Upper Street, so surrounded by food options, especially in the Angel tube direction. A black box that offers new writing and re-hashed classics.

 JACKSONS LANE , Highgate N6 ( seats 166 ) Great Arts centre and cultural hub. Delivers quality performances of many varieties, including drama, dance, circus, children’. Also, a great place to get involved. Cafe and food offerings too

 KINGS HEAD pub theatre Islington N1   ( seats 120 ). This legendary venue.Adam Spreadbury-Maher, has shone in recent years here. After the success of La Bohème, accessible opera has been the plan. Plenty of other offerings though, new works, drama. The higher end of Fringe. Worth a look.

 LION AND UNICORN , Kentish Town NW5 ( seats 50) Solid fringe venue in Kentish Town. Very broad offerings, hit and miss in nature. Good pub though, usual good selection of Ales and good local punters.

LITTLE ANGEL PUPPET THEATRE, Islington N1   A glorious little theatre dedicated to puppetry and children. Oozes magic and offers some great creative learning experiences too. Take your kids, they’ll love it.

MILLFIELD THEATRE Edmonton N18  ( seats 360) In the grounds of Millfield House, this is the theatre space attached to the arts Centre. Plenty to watch and do here. Performance classes, Panto, Tributes, Comedy… total mixed bag. Some interesting and enjoyable bits in the Gardens too.

PARK THEATRE, Finsbury park N4 ( seats 200/ 90 in studio) One of our newest theatres, very fancy professional spaces opened in 2010. In this short time, they’ve already had some powerhouse shows. Great drama to be seen here. Impressive creative learning opportunities too.

 OLD RED LION  Angel, Islington  One of London’s first fringe venues, above one of its oldest pubs (1415, Grade II listed). Intimate space, offering new works and hit or miss revivals. Boasting a few transfers, an occasional launch pad for influential theatre makers, moving from fringe to West-end.

PENTAMETERS  Hampstead, NW3 60 seat London Fringe venue, above The Horseshoe Pub, Hampstead Village. Once a hub for new writing, now more classic revivals or offerings from fledgling creatives learning/honing their craft. Lovely pub.

 PLEASANCE Theatre Trust, Holloway N7   ( 3 spaces ; capacity 55 , 80 and 230) So much on offer here, Touring, new works, everything in between.  Same outfit as the Pleasance in Edinburgh, so plenty of fringe transfers or preparations. Good creative hub, scratch nights, reading groups, a few classes and talks. I’ve seen a lot of good comedy here too

 RED HEDGEHOG , Highgate N6   ( seats 40) Music, drama, performed readings, talks…..a programme with a slightly more high-brow edge. Has a ever changing food scene too, with a pop-up idea in place. Worth a visit for some more thought-provoking offerings

 ROSEMARY BRANCH , Islington N1 ( seats 60) Longstanding Fringe venue  .These guys know their food. Great pub with all the trimmings. Performance concentrates more on comedy and improv style shows. Old music hall venue, which has retained it’s funny bones

ROUNDHOUSE, Chalk Farm NW1   ( seats1,700) Roundhouse, read POWERhouse. An institution of Music, Dance, and Performance. Always a dazzling schedule with artists at the top of their game. Great opportunities for young creatives too

KILN THEATRE at the Tricycle, Kilburn NW6   ( seats 290 ) Formerly the Tricycle, same space, same cultural diversity and high calibre of productions. Not just theatre, a cinema on site too, showing art house and blockbuster. A hub for local community, offering classes and opportunities for many.
